Campfire Comfort

As the days get shorter and colder, we'd like to share some warmth and light with you. A riff off of a Spanish coffee, this drink is perfect to gather friends and family around for the holidays.

Ingredients

  • ¾ oz overproof rum
  • ½ oz triple sec
  • 1½ oz coffee liqueur
  • 3 oz freshly brewed hot coffee
  • Sugar for rim

Garnish

Orange twist, marshmallows, whipped cream, grated nutmeg

Pour some sugar on me, I mean, your mug

First, make sure you have a metal mug with a handle for this — very important! Now that we're ready, add some sugar in a shallow bowl, dip the rim of your mug in water, and roll in the sugar. Be sure to coat both sides of the rim generously.

Gather 'round the campfire

Now for the fun part: Add the rum and triple sec to your mug and carefully light it with a match or lighter. Tilt & swirl your mug so the flames dance and caramelize the sugars. Keep doing this until the sugar begins to bubble and turn a golden brown. Watch those eyebrows…

There's s'more fun to be had

Extinguish the flame by adding in the coffee liqueur & coffee. We find that this goes great with a Jetboil-roasted marshmallow for an extra smokey kick. Garnish with your fixin's and toast with your favorite people!
